Biography

Part philosopher and part voyeur, Carlos Sánchez-Vegas provides his viewers with a distinct visual style incorporating both wit and drama. Drawing upon his understanding of art history and culture, he explores themes of identity, religious iconography and psychology, reinterpreting these ideas through a contemporary lens. Three motifs emerge: Las Maninas, Christ, and the horse. Cerebral in nature, Carlos Sánchez Vegas is a multi-media artist that has worked in painting, sculpture, metal engraving, and graphic arts. He studied restoration of paper and cloth at the School of Fine Arts of the Louvre in Paris (1979) and the Institute of Heritage Conservation Mexico City (1984).
